STAGE 9 Welcomes You to OUR TOWN – January 21 & 22, 2017
Hutchinson, Kan. – Stage 9 opens its 2017 season with a special production of the classic drama by Thornton Wilder, Our Town. Stage 9 presents a staged reading of the classic Our Town for two performances only, Saturday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. Performances will be at the theatre at 9 S. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas.
Bringing Our Town to life once again in this one-weekend only production, Stage 9 will visit the residents of Grover’s Corners between the years 1901 to 1913. This American masterpiece of the stage is framed around Emily Webb and George Gibbs when their romance blossoms among a town of colorful characters. And, in a twist that left the American Theatre changed forever, we get the rare opportunity to look at life after death. Stage 9 revisits this Pulitzer Prize Winning American classic for another look at its timeless themes which touch the human spirit as no other play can.
Our Town follows the lives of Emily, George, their families and other denizens of Grover’s Corners as they experience life’s day-to-day activities. Throughout the play, the Stage Manager directs us to various time periods in this town for glimpses of life, love, and death. Wilder makes us aware of the importance of relationships and staying connected. He points to the fleeting existence we all share on earth and encourages us to live in the moment and not take life for granted.
